Amidala Costume

Princess Padme Amidala is a pretty versatile young lady. Not only does she attend to all the duties as head of state of the planet of Naboo but she is also a warrior – an Amazonian woman warrior no less. This costume and the slightly similar white jumpsuit are the outfits she wears when she is in warrior mode.

Padme Amidala wears this outfit in the 2002 movie Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. This is quite an important movie for Amidala as it shows her in a few different roles and essentially defines who she is as a young woman (previous movies she had been a girl princess). In the first part of the movie she is a high ranking diplomat and senator. She tries to reduce the influence of the trade Federation and state the case for more support of her native planet Naboo, via diplomatic means. She is outflanked and deceived by Senator Palpatine. An attempt on her life is also made and she goes into hiding. During this time she falls in love with her consort, none other than Anakin Skywalker. They discuss their ideas on what should be done in the republic to ensure peace and prosperity. Padme leans towards the diplomatic and democratic route. Anakin effectively suggests a dictatorship would be more effective.

The couple embark on a couple of rescue missions. The first is to save Anakin’s mother and then to save his teacher in the ways of the force, Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

During this time, Padme Amidala wears her white jumpsuit. This costume (illustrated here) is a slight modifictation of that jumpsuit. Rather than being a one piece, it is pants and a shimmery white half-sleeveless half shirt. It’s easier to get around in, to dodge lasers and it looks pretty good too. Let’s be honest, the suit is designed to look sexy. And it succeeds quite admirably. Add a few silver armbands, a utility belt to store your laser gun and you have a princess warrior. The shimmer of the suit and the flashy armbands and leg guards give it that suitable space age/ space opera look.

This outfit differs from the whole jumpsuit in terms of the top but other than that they are identical. Both look great and are bound to garner a bit of attention at your next Halloween or fancy dress costume party.
